Item Description...
Examines the biblical text of the Sermon on the Mount as a source of spiritual power and direction

Publishers Description

What did Jesus teach? Distilled from years of study and lecture, affirmed by nearly a million readers over the last fifty years, Emmet Fox's answer in The Sermon on the Mount is simple. The Bible is a "textbook of metaphysics" and the teachings of Jesus express--without dogma--a practical approach for the development of the soul and for the shaping of our lives into what we really wish them to be. For Fox, Jesus was "no sentimental dreamer, no mere dealer in empty platitudes, but the unflinching realist that only a great mystic can be."

In his most popular work, Emmet Fox shows how to: Understand the true nature of divine wisdom. Tap into the power of prayer. Develop a completely integrated and fully expressed personality. Transform negative attitudes into life-affirming beliefs. Claim our divine right to the full abundance of life.

Great Food For Living!  Mar 31, 2007
I read this book about 19 years ago. Somehow it made it into a group of folks I was in recovery with and the inspiration and insight helped me rechannel the way I thought about The Sermon (The Beatitudes) as I was taught them in Sunday School. Great Find!! For anyone who has had their dreams tarnished by life in the day-to-day....this is a great place to start anew with a fresh concept on what we are to do while we are here that will enhance our lives on a deep and personal level, as well as to the every-day miracles that each of us can perform in the lives of others.
Classic Legalistic Rhetoric at its Best ...  Mar 15, 2007
The Sermon on the Mount - Reissue: The Key to Success in Life

The first thought that crosses my mind when I read this book is Colossians 2:8 - "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ." Sure, the author refers to scripture, but there is not one reference to the fact that man can be saved through faith in one God (Jesus), obedience to one God (Jesus), and shedding of blood (Christ shed the blood for us!). The author's circular rhetoric might confuse even the most God-fearing Christians. Emmett Fox falls short of providing the formula for salvation. And most troubling is that the author is a champion of Christian Science?! The bible cannot be dissected with critical literary analysis! The Word of God is conveyed to us and spoken through men anointed by the Holy Spirit (ie. Pastors), not by self-promotion, as I suspect the author has done. Researching Emmett Fox did not yield any evidence that he received the gift of the Holy Spirit nor anointed to preach the Word of God.

In this dispensation, God has allowed us to repent and bury our sins (fruits of the flesh) under the blood of Jesus (Matthew 3:2) via the gift of baptism through water and spirit in the name of Jesus (Acts 2:38, Matthew 28:19). Twelve step programs aren't going to free the alcoholic from booze. Repentence, baptism in water and holy spirit will (Matthew 3:11 - 16). Although I've earned more science and business degrees than I ever needed, no amount of analysis can discount this fact, especially after I've witnesssed more than one person freed from their addictions when they receive the Holy Spirit and starts to speak in tongues. And not one of them needed 12-steps, prescription drug intervention, nor secular therapy... one encounter with the Holy Ghost cleaved off their fleshly desires.

Our humanity resists to believe this until it occurs in front of our eyes. It is truly understandable if those who are not revealed and have not experienced the truth can become *enamored* with this book. A few years ago, someone of perceived faith did refer me to this book to "correct" my Christian views. I did not hesitate back then to read it. But now that I have been baptized in water and spirit, it is clear to me that Emmett Fox just touches the surface, enough to stir up human emotion and flesh to walk a Christ-like life, but not enough to stir up the inner spirit and truly BE WITH Christ. It is God's desire for his creation (US) to WALK AND BE WITH HIM (Romans 6:2-4), and a way we can do this is to get down on our knees and pray through in the Holy Ghost, with every praying moment praising Him for his blessings. Talking with God in solitary or intercessory prayer is also not a novel concept, which Emmett Fox attempts to provide "guidelines" how to talk with God (read his evaluation of Psalm 91). Talking with God is a natural occurrence, but are you truly inviting Him into your soul to search every conscious and subconscious cavity of your mind and heart (Psalm 139:23-24)? But done with the power of Holy Ghost moving through your inner spirit, God will answers many prayers in His time (Jude 1:19-21).

For new Oneness Believers like me, if in doubt, I recommend to challenge books like this against the Word of God in the Holy Bible (1 John 4:1-5, James 1:25-27).
Sermon on the Mount Review  Jan 9, 2007
I was just introduced to this book this year and was amazed that I had never heard of this book before. I have read many spiritual new-age religious books and was pleasantly surprised by this work. It is a short book that contains much wisdom. I had heard all of the concepts before that were presented in this material but never in one book by one author. This is why this book, I believe, would be terrific to teach in a small bible class. Fox basically takes Jesus's Sermon on the Mount and dissects it line by line. If you are a Bible literalist, a believer that you have no control over your health or your life or are a fan of the Old Testament God of wrath and revenge this book is probably not for you. If you have an open mind, believe in a God of Love and know that we personally control every aspect of our health and our lives then buy this book immediately!

Makes Christ' words relevant for daily living  Nov 6, 2006
For anyone who is a follower of Christ but cringes at being labeled a Christian. Fox applies his metaphysical insights into this interpretation of The Sermon on the Mount. In essense, the book could simply be used as a handbook for "right living".
good read  Oct 31, 2006
This book is about praying, and how important and useful it can be in your every day life. Praying isn't something that most of us realize becomes important as the day winds on, but you're actually becoming a better person when you pray because you allow yourself to open up to your personal feelings. You see, the point of the book is for you to free your mind of any bad feelings, and to be grateful and honest when you pray, and when you go through life everyday. This book does a good job showing you how to appreciate good feelings, and I recommend it.

Live The NewTestament Life

Vance heeded the call and as a result has called other men to join his Band of Brothers who follow Christ no matter the cost. Here is a battle plan for men who are ready to do something extraordinary with their lives and heed God's call.
God doesn’t want your do-good, try-harder good works. He simply wants your surrender. Come and meet the God who knows you by name, you accepts you as you are, and wants to transform you through his grace.
